Change is Sweat-Inducing, it’s Nauseating, and it Can Be Down-Right Alienating—but Damn Does it Feel Good

I want to change. I want to have more insight into the worlds around me, the worlds I never knew existed, the worlds I treated like foreign objects or abject dimensions. Places I was too afraid or too lazy to explore. To do this I need to build a practice and create new habits. The goals of my practice are patience, openness, awareness and consciousness. The “Skills of my Practice,” or what I am currently calling the “Projects of my Practice” will exist on a spectrum or a continuum as ever evolving areas of study. They will not be binary, because binary forms of classification are limiting. There are few things that repress discovery and exploration as much as the enforcement of binary thought.

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” — Leo Tolstoy

I will face challenges, perhaps non-greater then the most debilitating histories of fear, perfectionism, white supremacy, comfort and convenience. I will sweat and my ego will try and dominate—but i will build a practice, by practicing to “break” those stories of the past that create and define the future. My goal is to create a mosaic that connects my reality with the reality of people who are both the same and different from me, I do this to honor the fragility of life.
