Break Some Stories

I am not a Storyteller I am a “Story Breaker”—I want to break the stories of the past and create never thought of before futures. It was always a pet-peeve of mine, when people at work—marketers in-particular introduced themselves as Storytellers, I would roll my eyes, like come-on. Now I know that’s their truth and how they identify, so it bothers me less, but probably what bothers me even less is because now I found some words to finally describe myself, a Storybreaker.

Inspired by an essay in Call Them by Their True Names American Crises (and Essays) by Rebecca Solnit, which was first published in Lithub.com as To Break the Story, You Must Break the Status Quo Rebecca Solnit on Why Journalists Need to Cause Trouble by Rebecca Solnit, which was adapted from the 2016 commencement address for the Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley, Solnit’s alma mater.
